This is it! What day is it folks? Have you been waiting for this day? We have. Not because it’s the publisher’s birthday, but because it’s, wait for it, yes, it’s
NATIONAL ROADRUNNER DAY in the year 2025!!!
Roadrunner of the Year. Wait for it! Do NOT Scroll Down!
Today, we’ve usually reserved the day for selecting the “Roadrunner of the Year”. What is National Roadrunner Day and why did we do this? We believe that Roadrunners are one of the most fascinating birds you will ever meet, and we’ve met many.
One of the beauties of being an American is that you have independence and freedoms that are embodied in our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We live in a Republic, not a democracy, and therefore, we should be able to do, go, be and say pretty much anything we damn well please regardless of what the mob says. And we shouldn’t be forced to be locked down in our homes, wear a useless mask, or take an untested, deadly and injurious Covid vaccine either.
On March 5, 2025, the Indian Wells Valley lost an icon and a historian with the passing of Pat Farris, publisher of the News Review.
In 1980 Pat took over as publisher of the News Review, which she continued to operate until 2024. After graduating from one of the first classes at Burroughs High School, Pat went to college in Missouri, where she would meet Fredrick Stanley Farris. The two married Dec. 1, 1948. Their family moved around the country while Fred was a pastor, eventually moving back to the IWV with their children Paul, Bill, Patti, and Laura in 1969.
“It’s OUR Water: All Wealth Flows from the Mountains to the Valleys, to the Land, and to the Valleys Underground, until it pools and you dig a well and drink it or grow your food with it.” – Miguel T. Tonnis
Pat knew all about water in the Indian Wells Valley, often citing Dr. Carl Austin’s work and his views on the valley’s sources of water. When you think about the massive mountains of the Eastern Sierra as if they are a great sponge made of fractured granite, then you might understand why the Indian Wells Valley Technical Working Group study shows over three times more groundwater in storage in the basin than the IWV Groundwater Authority’s model.
“The Desert Will Blossom” – Pat Farris circa 1974.
Add to that, the basin itself is over 300 square miles, and the aquifer feeds the valley from the north and the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. There’s a lot of water in the ground. It’s that simple.
Thrust faulting and associated listric, landslide, and relaxation faulting in the Sierra, the Coso and Argus Ranges, and under the IWV provide other avenues for subsurface inflow. Data indicate significant inflow into the IWV from Rose Valley. Inflow from the Sierran granitics is indicated…
A Technical Working Group (TWG) composed of qualified groundwater professionals designated by parties representing more than 80 percent of the total groundwater production from the Indian Wells Valley Groundwater Basin (Basin) was formed to assess groundwater storage in the Basin and evaluate other related technical questions. This paper was the subject of collaboration between these professionals applying scientific methods to estimate the total amount of groundwater and usable groundwater in storage in the Basin. This effort required defining the physical parameters of the Basin, including its geologic and hydrologic characteristics. Three separate methodologies were considered, and the average groundwater volumes estimated from those three approaches are as follows:
The total volume of groundwater in storage in the Basin is approximately 66.9 million acre-feet (AF); and
The amount of fresh groundwater in storage in the Basin is approximately 37.5 million AF.
You’ve Waited Long Enough, Heads Will Really Explode Here! The 2025 Roadrunner of the Year Award Goes to:
Donald J. Trump, the 45th and 47th President of the United States
How can anybody say that Trump hasn’t been a total complete wrecking ball coming from a time when the United States was flying the rainbow flag over the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan while millions and millions of invaders have been destroying our way of life, along with “The Deep State” doing their dirty work. You don’t think so?
