Wherry Housing Redevelopment

Phase One: bye bye Wherry

Let’s try this… In three easy steps:

1. Eminent Domain (Buyouts and relocation with incentives)

2. Optionally, a “Man Camp” operated by the City under contract with Navy

3. Tear down, demolish and haul away everything that’s left, within 2 years

If you think it can’t be done, think again…

Project: Hey Hey Ho Ho Wherry Housing’s Got to Go

The City and Navy should immediately begin Eminent Domain action on the former Navy project called Wherry Housing.

The City and Navy should offer demand bids to all property owners of Wherry at a fair price.

Property Owners will negotiate with tenants if needed, and relocation assistance will be available to all residents.

Ridgecrest’s dirty little secret: Wherry and NAWS China Lake, the City’s albatross and your future (or lack thereof)

Upon completion of acquisition by the City/Navy of units in Wherry, begin demolition and make ready for the “Man Camp”.

After 2 years, the Man Camp will be vacated and any remaining structures will be demolished and entire property will be made ready for redevelopment.

How fast can 500 units of affordable housing be built in the City of Ridgecrest? As fast as the City, County and Navy want.
